The National Catholic Reporter informs us that the Order of Friars Minor reelected its current minister general “just months after some of its members were accused of embezzling tens of millions of dollars.” The order was “facing bankruptcy following a series of ‘questionable financial activities’ by friars.”
Embezzlement? Franciscan friars?
I’m always hesitant to make judgments about what is in keeping with the “true spirit of St. Francis.” But this story tests my resolve.
